The Heating, Air, and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) program at Oklahoma Technical College is all about learning through doing. You’ll get hands-on training with a variety of heating and cooling units, from commercial refrigerators to residential furnaces. Some of the courses our program covers to prepare students for day one of their new career include:
- Heat and Energy Theory
- Basic Electricity

- Additional courses that cover operating and troubleshooting industry equipment
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of jobs for Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Mechanics and Installers is growing by 14% from 2014 to 2024, which is much faster than the average economy.

After learning the technical and hands-on skills in your HVAC/R classes and graduating with your diploma, if you’re interested in learning more about industry management and basic business principles such as marketing, management, and accounting, you may choose to complete our Associate of Occupational Science degree in Business and Industry Management in as little as 10 months. This option is perfect for students who want to own their own business after graduation or wish to pursue management opportunities in the future.

As an HVAC/R student, you will receive two different kits: one at the start and one at graduation. Both these kits combined are full of tools to help set you up in your new career including gauges, a multi-meter, wrenches, channel locks, pliers, wire cutters, and much more!
