The Importance of Your FSA ID

November 14, 2018

Congratulations on starting your journey with Community Care College, Clary Sage College, and Oklahoma Technical College! When you first met with a Financial Aid Specialist, they walked you through the enrollment process. You then probably either created your FSA ID and password or were assisted in retrieving it. Your FSA ID is incredibly important. You might have even heard your classmates talking about theirs. So what is it and why is it important to remember?

Financial Student Aid Identification

Your FSA ID is the username and password that you will use on all federal student aid websites such as fafsa.gov and StudentLoans.gov. This login can also be used on the myStudentAid mobile app to access all of your Federal financial aid information.  Students and parents are required to use an FSA ID to access certain U.S. Department of Education online systems. Your FSA ID is used to confirm your identity and for electronically signing your federal student aid documents (FAFSA, Master Promissory Note, Exit Counseling).

Use It, Don’t Lose It

It is important that you keep track of your FSA ID and password during your entire academic career.  You will continue to use your FSA ID and password until you graduate as well as after graduation.  You should make it a priority to put this information in a safe place where you can find it. We recommend saving it under a discreet name in your phone contacts. That way you can always pull it up if you do not remember it. There are also online password websites that keep track of your passwords for you. We suggest LastPass or another similar site.

I’ve Already Lost It…

If you have forgotten your username or password, don’t panic! By going to the FSA ID website or any Federal Student Aid website with a login, you will find links that give you the option of retrieving your username or password. You can retrieve it through your verified email address, phone number, or by successfully answering your challenge questions. You can also call the Federal Student Aid help desk at 1-800-433-3243 for further assistance in retrieving your login credentials.

As always, the Financial Aid offices on all three campuses are here to help in any way that we can!
